Your car’s tires are probably one of the most important parts of your vehicle. That’s because your tires are just about all that connects your car to the road, so great tires are key. But, how can you know when it’s time to switch up your car’s tires? Nobody wants to let their tires get too worn, so knowing when it’s time to replace things is of the utmost importance. At Deals on Wheels, we’d like to think that we’re experts when it comes to car tires and car care. How do I know if I need to replace my tires? We’re here to help!
There are some signs that you can keep a lookout for to indicate the wear level of your car’s tires. When your tires get too worn, they can have trouble safely and effectively gripping the road. Worn tires can reduce your fuel efficiency, wear other tires and worn tires can even be a safety hazard. This is why it’s so important to keep your eyes peeled for signs of tire wear.
When you’re walking up to your car, take a look at your tires. If you’re standing in front of or behind your car and you can see little lines between the tread in your tires, you’re getting close to the due date for a tire switch. Many of today’s tire companies paint wear indicators on your tires, meaning that when you see these bright white lines or standout stripes within the tread of your tires, things have worn pretty low.
Another visual aid is the famous penny test. Take any run of the mill penny and place it upside down into the tread of your tires. If you see the top of Lincoln’s head when the penny is inserted into your tread, you’re due for new tires. Don’t have a penny? You can also do the same test with a quarter. If you can see the top of Washington’s head, then you need new tires.
